DTU ranked number two in research world ranking

Wednesday 09 Sep 20
In the new World University Research Rankings 2020 which focuses on three core areas of university research, DTU ranks second in the world and number one in Europe.

A new ranking evaluates research at the world’s universities based on impact and excellence, as well as the ability of universities to collaborate internationally with businesses and across disciplines. And here DTU comes in second after the American top university Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

In the World University Research Rankings, universities are measured on seven indicators in three categories, all research-related: Research multidisciplinarity, research impact, and research collaborativeness. All indicators are based on university publications in Web of Science/InCites (Clarivate Analytics) for the period 2009-2018.

DTU scores particularly high in the categories multidisciplinary and collaborativeness, which according to DTU’s Executive Vice President, Provost Rasmus Larsen is the very prerequisite for the University’s research being applied for the benefit of society:

“DTU Health Tech, for example, can only succeed with its high-tech research in collaboration with clinical researchers. Similarly, groundbreaking results are created across the technical sciences when materials researchers and electrical engineers collaborate on micro-antennas, and AI researchers team up with biotech engineers to find enzymes with new properties.

Overall, collaboration is deeply integrated in DTU’s DNA. Our goal is to create a sustainable future for people, and to achieve that we work together across academic competencies and cultures, always factoring in society and practical application. I’m pleased that the dedicated work is now reflected in our high ranking in the World University Research Rankings 2020. And we’re extra proud of the result because our financial prerequisites differ markedly from those of MIT.”
